Title: Records, 1874-1927 (bulk, 1890-1920).

The records are primarily the files of Thomas Rodd, Chief Engineer of Lines West from 1889 to 1918. However, they also contain files from the following subordinate officers: Robert Trimble, Chief Engineer of Maintenance of Way, Northwest System (1903-1920) and William C. Cushing, Chief Engineer of Maintenance of Way, Southwest System (1903-1920). Additional files were taken from predecessors, Max J. Becker, Chief Engineer of the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway and predecessors (1870-1896), F. T. Hatch, Chief Engineer of the Vandalia Railroad (1905-1917) and J. C. Bland, Engineer of Bridges & Buildings. The various files appear to have been consolidated by Robert Trimble after he became Assistant Chief Engineer at Pittsburgh (1920-1926), and he kept some files open, continuing coverage of the same projects after the dissolution of the Lines West organization.

Mayberry, Susanah. World War II Accounts, 1994-1995.

Title: World War II Accounts, 1994-1995.

Two accounts by Mayberry about her wartime marriage and experiences as a war bride. The marriage account describes well-wishers accompanying the newlyweds to Union Station and a raucous sing-along by the crowd in the waiting room. Her war bride account describes her life on the home front as a worker for Electronic Laboratories in Indianapolis.

This subgroup of maps and drawings consists of items extracted from the correspondence files or in some cases purchased from private collectors who salvaged them from the company. All maps and drawings relating to right of way and structures have been arranged here, including items from the files of other departments on the grounds that they were originally prepared by the Engineering Department and to put all drawings of a similar type together. Because the drawings are a synthetic collection of fragments, they have been arranged somewhat arbitrarily according to the type of thing depicted.

The collection consists of memorabilia from Union Station in Indianapolis. There are working papers from railroads that used the station with the majority of papers coming from the Pennsylvania Railroad. There is also information on the renovation of the station in the 1980s.

The collection is organized into five series. Series 1 Accounting 1884-1967 contains business records. Series 2 Ledgers 1893-1969 is comprised of bound volumes containing letters, Maintenance of Way materials lists, Daily Material Reports, and Time Books. Series 3 Correspondence 1894-1990 contains all general correspondence relating to business operations. Series 4 Assorted Business Documents 1849-1991 has a variety of business papers organized by categories and includes board meeting minutes, legal claims, financial and personnel records. Series 5 Photographs and Artifacts 1911-1964 is made up of a few photographs and the artifacts found with the collection.
