Whitsitt, William Heth, 1841-1911. Sidney Rigdon : the real founder of Mormonism / by William Heth Whitsitt, 1908.
Title:
Sidney Rigdon : the real founder of Mormonism / by William Heth Whitsitt, 1908.
Bound carbon copy typescript biography of Sidney Rigdon detailing his early life; conversion to Mormonism; life in Mormon communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Missouri; and his work with, and estrangement from, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The 1,068-page work in two volumes was written by Whitsitt, "...in an effort to demonstrate from original documents and history, that Mormon theology and its church constitution were conceived and produced by Rigdon and not by Joseph Smith." The first volume contains a TL carbon from Whitsitt to Dr. Worthington Ford, Chief, Manuscripts Division of the Library of Congress in which the author states that he was unable financially to publish his work when he completed it in 1885, and asks that the typescript be held by the Library and made available to researchers. Each volume contains a three-page table of contents.

Secord, Josephine Rigdon, 1876-1974,. Josephine Rigdon Secord letters.
Title:
Josephine Rigdon Secord letters. 1965-19723
The collection is a series of correspondence that occurred between 1965-1972 from Josephine Rigdon Secord to Arlene Hess. Arlene was researching Sidney Rigdon to help produce a publication in celebration of Friendship's Sesquicentennial and had asked Josephine (known as Jessie) to contribute any information she had concerning her grandfather. The correspondence shifted from the reluctance of Jessie to give out information to a warm friendship between the two women. Jessie opened up to Arlene about some of her personal impressions of Sidney Rigdon. Jessie continued to be somewhat reluctant to disclose information concerning her family and past but would occassionally disclose information in her letters. The first folder is the photocopied correspondence and the second folder is a bound collection of Jessie's typed letters with some related miscellaneous items compiled by Heather Kissinger Sorensen.
