American senator from Ohio (1851-1869).
Lawyer, U.S. senator from Ohio, and Republican Party leader.
Benjamin F. [B. F.] Wade (1800-1878), was an abolitionist and Whig/Republican Senator from Ohio, 1851-1869. Wade was co-author of the Wade-Davis bill on reconstruction, which was pocket vetoed by President Lincoln, and the subsequent Wade-Davis Manifesto. He often was at odds with Lincoln, who he held responsible for the slow progress of the Union in the Civil War. Wade served as President pro tempore of the Senate during the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses (1865-1869) and was unsuccessful Republican candidate for the vice presidential nomination in 1868. After he also lost a bid for re-election to the Senate in 1868, he returned to practicing law and became the attorney for the Northern Pacific Railroad.
Benjamin F. Wade was a lawyer, U.S. Senator, and Republican Party leader from Ohio. He was associated with the radical wing of the party.

Salmon P. Chase Papers
Title:
Salmon P. Chase Papers
Salmon P. Chase (1808-1873) was a career politician and an influential Union decision-maker during the Civil War. He served as governor of Ohio, U.S. senator, secretary of the Treasury, and Supreme Court chief justice. The Salmon P. Chase Papers, which span the years 1824-1884, provide tremendous insight into the professional life of Chase and provide information on the National Bank and specie debates, as well as the abolition movement from the early 1820s through the Civil War. This collection contains correspondence, speech notes, newspaper clippings, biographical material, court opinions, financial papers, and a myriad of miscellaneous items. In addition to containing Chase's papers, this collection also contains the papers of J. W. Schuckers, Chase's personal secretary and biographer. Schuckers’s papers give further insight into the economic situation immediately following the Civil War and include correspondence, newspapers, investments records, and other financial papers.

Consists of correspondence, wedding invitations, genealogy notes, newsclippings, and a freight receipt. The collection pertains to the views of Radical Republicans during the early stages of the Civil War. Caroline Wade's letter strongly expresses her (and probably her husband's) negative views of President Abraham Lincoln and General George B. McClellan. The genealogical material is also useful for information on the Wade family of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the families of Dudley, Newhall, Hills, Upham, Wigglesworth, and Leonard.
