Epes Sargent was an American author, poet, and editor born in Gloucester, M.A. He wrote some of the books for Samuel Griswold Goodrich's PETER PARLEY series of books for children, and for the annual gift-book "Token" which he also helped edit. In 1839 Sargent moved to New York City where he edited the "Evening Signal", worked on the editorial staff of the "New World", and was associate editor of George Pope Morris's "New York Mirror". Because of his knowledge of federal politics, Sargent wrote THE LIFE AND PUBLIC SERVICES OF HENRY CLAY. Sargent also wrote SONGS OF THE SEA AND OTHER POEMS, a popular collection of verses, some based on Sargent's travels to Cuba.

From the description of The Genoese, or, The downfall of Fiesco : a drama in 3 acts, manuscript, [between 1842-1847] (Princeton University Library). WorldCat record id: 179300576
