Seymour Krim was born in New York City. After a year at the University of North Carolina, he returned to New York and began writing reviews and literary essays. Later he edited several magazines featuring modern poetry. His best known work was The beats (1960), a study of contemporary poets. In his later years, he taught in several universities, including the Pennsylvania State University.
