Superintendent's files, 1889-1906.

The records consist primarily of files of inter-company correspondence addressed to Oscar R. Jackson (superintendent, 1884-1901) and T. W. Bacchus (superintendent, 1902-1912). The files document the process by which nitroglycerin, smokeless powder and dynamite were manufactured. They describe the installation of machinery, plant construction, product testing, sales and shipping. The files contain a letter from Francis Gurney du Pont to Alexis I. du Pont describing the death of Lammot du Pont in an explosion in 1884. There are also minutes of superintendent's meetings, documentation on employee relations, wages, grievances and work rules.
