Collection contains letters addressed to Lord Monkswell, his wife Lady Monkswell, and to their son the lawyer Robert Collier from several artists. There are nine letters of John Everett Millais, including one commenting on landscape painting and another discussing the refusal of a painting by a patron (1872-1886); nine letters of Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1882-1900); eight letters of Edward John Poynter (1899-1901); six letters of Frank Dicksee, all concerning personal invitations (ca. 1898); four letters of Vicat Cole (1878-1886); three letters of Sir Austen Henry Layard (1885); five letters of Henry Wells (1892-1901); and single letters of George Dunlop Leslie (1891), James Russell Lowell (1881) and Gabriel Loppe (1879). The letters addressed to Lord Monkswell's son concern the collective copyright bill of 1890, designed to regulate artist's rights to reproductions of their works. In alphabetical order.
