Sir Francis Bernard Dicksee was a popular English painter of romantic genre pictures and society portraits. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1876 and became a member in 1891. He was knighted in 1925. Dicksee's art was firmly rooted in Pre-Raphaelite concepts.
