Correspondence (1791-1841) relates primarily to family affairs or Morris' activities as land agent, including letters from his mother, Mary Morris, his sons Charles B. and John Cox Morris, his nephew Gouverneur Morris (1828), and other members of the family; fair copies of letters from Jacob and letters from various people outside the family, including Robert Troup (1812), Stephan Van Rensselaer, Jr. (1821), and Elizabeth Schuyler (Mrs. Alexander) Hamilton (1821); deeds, powers of attorney, and other legal papers; a broadside "THE MORMON PROPHET. Complete Exposure of the Fraud" and copies of sworn statements (1903) from witnesses of a Mormon trek out of New York State; and miscellaneous booklets, clippings, and notes.

Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton (b. August 9, 1757, Albany, NY–d. November 9, 1854, Washington, DC) was the daughter of Continental Army General Philip Schuyler, a Revolutionary War general, and Catherine Van Rensselaer Schuyler. Gouverneur Morris, the grandson of the American statesman for whom he was named, was born in New York and was a graduate of Yale. He was a prolific writer of short stories for popular magazines and wrote several novels. Many of his short stories were made into films, 1918-1930.
