Hermann Berendt's transcription of a vocabulary of 18 words (all nouns) in Chorti along with the English equivalents, extracted from a comparative vocabulary table provided by Albert Gallatin in his article Notes on the semi-civilized nations of Mexico, Yucatan, and Central America (Transactions of the American Ethnological Society, vol. 1, 1845, p. 9); the vocabulary was collected by John Lloyd Stephens at Zacapa, Guatemala (Gallatin, p. 6).

Dr. Daniel Garrison Brinton (13 May 1837-31 July 1899) was born in Thornbury Township, Chester County, Pa., on "Homestead Farm" to Lewis and Ann (Garrison) Brinton. Brinton entered the army as a surgeon and served as Medical Director of the II Army Corps, holding the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel.
