William Diller Matthew was a vertebrate paleontologist and geologist. Matthew joined the American Museum of Natural History in 1895 as an assistant in the Dept. of Vertebrate Paleontology, eventually becoming curator in 1911. At the death of E.O. Hovey in 1924, Matthew was appointed acting curator of the Dept. of Geology. Chester Albert Reeds was a geologist and museum curator. Reeds joined the American Museum of Natural History in 1912 as assistant curator in the Dept. of Geology and Invertebrate Paleontology, eventually becoming associate curator, then curator in 1927, following W.D.
