Joseph Black was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 15, 1804. He was elected Alderman for the Ninth Ward in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. He also was a Trustee of and Secretary of the Board for the Franklin School Associates, and was a member of the New Jersey Historical Society.
