Leota Bates (Dec. 17, 1894-Feb. 13, 1976) was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. John H. Cornelius. She graduated from Central State Teacher's College, now Central Michigan University in 1914. Leota taught piano, organ, and was choir director and organist of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC), Belding (Mich.). She was active in music groups throughout Michigan.
