Receipt for $32.50 for 26 bags to pack flour [in] for the North Western Army, commanded by Gen. Hull, Mad River (Ohio), June 19, 1812, signed by John Hamilton. The receipt was marked as received from Gen. James Taylor, and signed by John Hamilton and witness, James Young. The reverse has a note testifying that the account of $32.50 is correct, signed by R.J. Meigs, Ohio.

William Hull (1753-1825) was a lawyer and a soldier. He served in the Revolutionary War and afterwards in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Brigadier-General. In 1805 he was appointed Governor of the Michigan Territory. In 1812 he was court-martialed and cashiered from the Army because of the failure of his campaign into Canada against the British.
