Dave Hart held positions in the United Packinghouse, Food, and Allied Workers (UPFAW) and then in the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America (AMC&BWNA) after the 1968 merger of these two unions. He was chief steward for UPFAW Local P-1 at the Morrell plant in Ottumwa, Iowa and then UPFAW District 3 director.
