Family Papers, 1808-1906. The Trombly surname is spelled various ways throughout the collection. Papers include receipts to Pierre Trombly or Tromble; letters of appointment to Lawrence Tromble as Keeper of the the Lighthouse at Windmill Point (Mich.), 1844-1853; printed, undated instructions to lighthouse keepers; a War of 1812 Widow's Pension form for Susanne Tromble, widow of Pierre, 1872; a stock certificate for Charles B. Trombley, 1906; miscellaneous; and a printed drain notice from Robert Trombly, Grosse Pointe Township (Mich.) Drain Commissioner, 1880. There is also an oversized folder of a Civil War Muster-Out roll with discharges, Jan. 1862-June 1865, for Co. A, 15th Michigan Infantry of Capt. Roberts. No Trombleys are listed on the roll. Item-level index cards are included, as are two pages of biographical information on the family.

The Trombly Family came to Detroit before Cadillac. At one point the family owned over two thousand acres in what is now Grosse Pointe (Mich.). (For further information see Burton's History of Wayne County in the Clarke Historical Library.) Pierre served in Capt. Audrain's Company of Michigan Militia during the War of 1812.
