The Trombly Family came to Detroit before Cadillac. At one point the family owned over two thousand acres in what is now Grosse Pointe (Mich.). (For further information see Burton's History of Wayne County in the Clarke Historical Library.) Pierre served in Capt. Audrain's Company of Michigan Militia during the War of 1812. Windmill Point Lighthouse was the first permanent Federal lighthouse. It was built at the head of the Detroit River in 1838.
