Land grant to Thomas and Isaac Williams, 1780,1797.

Copy of a land grant to Thomas and Isaac Williams from the Ochihue (or Chippewa, now called Ojibwa) Nation of Indians at Detroit (Mich.). The land is described as lying between the Huron River, land of James Abbott, and Lake St. Clare (sic, Claire). Spelled phonetically, the Ojibwa who signed by making their marks were: Maskiarhe, Misakan, Shaocamalin, and Aseban. On the back are notes certifying the grant as a true copy from the District of Upper Canada, Book B, pages 48-49, signed by W. Roe, Notary Public, Upper Canada, Dec. 6, 1800. Also there is a separate cover sheet describing the copy of the 1780 grant with a notation of being copied in 1797 and registered in book 1, pages 1819-1820, signed by Peter Audrain, Recorder of Wayne County (Mich.). The grant is very brittle and fragile. It is in four pieces, with three more pieces breaking lose. The grant has adhesive stains. Six pages of photocopies are included for easy reading and to preserve the original.
