Journal kept by William Turk as naval surgeon on two tours of duty: 1) aboard the U.S.S. Constitution, commanded by Thomas McDonough, which sailed from New York on a Mediterranean tour (with civilians, including women and children), from 1824-1825, and 2) aboard the U.S.S. Concord, commanded by Matthew C. Perry, which sailed from Portsmouth, N.H. in 1830 to transport John Randolph (1773-1833) to his post as minister extraordinary to the Imperial Russian Court at St. Petersburg, and passed the west coast of Africa on its return voyage. Includes descriptions of passenger and crew illnesses and treatments administered, weather conditions, and accounts of local events in Gibraltar, Tunis, the African coast, Greece, and other Mediterranean stops. Also, family financial accounts and receipts, letters, and visiting and business cards.
