This collection consists of 6 cubic ft. of historical and genealogical records. Included in the historical part of this collection is the correspondence of Agnes Willson Major, S.I.M. Major, Jr., and Cmdr. S.I.M. Major, III, USN Ret. Also included are documents pertaining to the U.S.S. Illinois, D.A.R. research, local church records, local business records, local lotteries, scrapbooks, postcards, and photographs. The historical documents concerning Kentucky mostly pertain to Franklin, Woodford, and Shelby counties and cover a time period between 1836-1961. Included in the genealogical part of the collection are histories of numerous Kentucky and Virginia families. These records vary in content, form, depth of information and accuracy. These records cover the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

Mrs. S.I.M. (Agnes Willson) Major, 1889-1966, at one time was the society editor of the Woodford Sun. Widow of Cmdr. S.I.M. Major, USN Ret., she was born in Richmond, Ky. in 1889 to Agnes Hanna and Matthew Willson. She was educated in Richmond and Shelbyville, where she graduated from Science Hill School. Samuel I.M. Major was a prominent figure in Frankfort's antebellum leadership.
