This collection contains information relating to the Civil War service of George Young. Included are legal papers in filing for his pension and for his wife filing for her widow's pension. Also included is a letter from Young to his parents during the war, a xerox of an article written about Young, and army papers accounting for the loss of his horse at the Battle of Peachtree Creek.

George Young, son of Edward Young, enlisted as a private in Company H, 28th Infantry of the New York Volunteers. He later served with Company A, 143rd New York Volunteers, serving for the majority of the time as a First Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in June of 1864 but had not received the formal promotion by the time of the Battle of Peachtree Creek. Ed Young was born 11-28-31 in China, where he lived until attending college in the United States. He attended Art Center College in Los Angeles and the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. In 1951, Young became a naturalized citizen. Young later taught in the Visual Communications Department of Pratt Institute for seven years.
