Gerrit Van Zyl graduated from Hope College in 1918. In 1920 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a masters degree in chemistry and physics. After three years as a teaching fellow at the University of Michigan, Van Zyl joined the faculty of Hope College as a chemistry professor. He received his Ph. In 1909 Wichers graduated from Hope College and was appointed instructor in English and Latin at Hope Preparatory School. In 1913 he became professor of history at Hope College. He received an M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1918. In 1925 Wichers resigned from Hope to become cashier of the First State Bank of Holland but continued his association with the college as a member of its Board of Trustees.
