Autograph letter signed, dated : Zurich, 16 March 1858, to [Theaterdirektor Thomé], 1858 Mar. 16.

Saying that apparently he misunderstood Wagner during his recent visit in Zurich, explaining that he is not writing an opera for Prague, with the intention of first giving it there, but that he would produce his new opera in that German city in which he could be present to personally supervise it, that he only hopes such permission will be granted him in Prague but does not think he will be allowed to travel there, either, recommending his Rienzi which, because it is stylistically so different from Tannhäuser, he had temporarily withdrawn so as not to produce confusion, that Rienzi will be given in Dresden, Weimar, Hanover, and Breslau, adding that he understands that Apt performed portions of it in Prague, and made a very favorable impression, etc.
