Sending [not present] that portion of [Handel's] Samson he would prefer to sing, asking Peyton to get someone else to sing in "the Quartetts in the Messiah. ... I never sing the Quartetts in London or elsewhere," etc. With a clipped signature from a letter, dated 27 December 1872, possibly to Peyton, concerning his engagement to sing at the Birmingham Festival in August of the coming year.
