Thanking him for his notice in the [Daily] Telegraph of Naylor's lecture about the music of the future, observing that "the recent developments of Verdi's method tend to show the 'episodical' character of the specially Wagnerian system of composing music," admitting to disappointment on hearing [Wagner's] Ring and Tristan, and expressing satisfaction with [Verdi's] Otello, etc.
