Rosella Kenner Brent papers, 1902-1915.

Two personal narratives by Mrs. Brent describe her recollections of the Ashland Plantation, including a sketch of loyal slave Henry Hammond. She also recounts an 1862 incident in which her father escaped to Bayou Lafourche upon learning that Federal troops were coming to arrest him. Mrs. Brent's narratives also list the names of slaves and servants, and tell of the property confiscated by Federal troops, including the family silver, thoroughbred racing horses, and oil paintings and trophies of champion horses. Three letters pertain to Rosella Kenner Brent's husband, Brigadier General Joseph L. Brent, C.S.A. A 1910 letter describes General Brent's service in the Confederate States Army. Includes typed transcriptions of all manuscript narratives and letters.

Rosella Kenner was the daughter of Ascension Parish planter and politician Duncan Farrar Kenner. She grew up on Ashland Plantation, and witnessed the July, 1862 Union raid of the estate.
