Contains extensive correspondence dating from the early 1940s; notes, research, drafts, and published versions of Sánchez' writings; students' papers and articles by others; and records from organizations, departments, and committees which Sánchez headed. Personal and biographical materials include yearbooks, resumés, and financial records. Contains materials on legal cases involving discrimination. Audiovisual materials include broadsides, charts, dictation belts, maps, phonodiscs, and photographs. Reflects Sánchez' activities as a teacher, researcher, administrator, writer, and crusader for the rights of Hispanic Americans. Major correspondents include lawyers and political figures Chris Aldrete, Roger Baldwin, Gus C. García, Hector García, M.C. Gonzales, Ed Idar, A.L. Wirin, and Ralph Yarborough. Other scholars and researchers represented include A.L. Campa, Pedro Cebollero, Ernesto Galarza, Robert C. Jones, Julian Samora, Lyle Saunders, Brice Sewell, and Clarice Whittenburg. Many photographs show substandard schools for Mexican American children or migrant worker camps. Publications include New Mexico reports on education dating from 1892, a series of occasional papers edited by Sánchez, readers and stories for Native American children, and atlases and statistical works on Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.

Roger Nash Baldwin (January 21, 1884 – August 26, 1981) was one of the founders of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). He served as executive director of the ACLU until 1950.
