The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is one of the oldest, largest, and most influential organizations representing the voice of Hispanics in the United States. LULAC was formed in 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas, by the merger of three Mexican American civic organizations: the Corpus Christi chapter of the Order Sons of America, the Order Knights of America of San Antonio, and the League of Latin American Citizens of South Texas. LULAC has worked consistently and effectively in advocating equal opportunity for Hispanics in government, law, education, and business.

Non-profit organization which actively fosters Mexican Americans' political, economic, educational, and social interests; often referred to by its acronym LULAC.
Began in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1929 with the merger of the Order Sons of America, the Order Knights of America, and the League of Latin American Citizens. Quickly expanded in Texas and the Southwest. Membership swelled after World War II with heightened political awareness; by 1980, there were over 100,000 members nationwide. Sponsored organizations include HOPE (Hispanics Organized for Political Education); LNESC (LULAC National Education Service Centers); and SER-Jobs for Progress, founded with the American G.I. Forum. LULAC also sponsors voter registration, low-income housing, and social services for the elderly.
LULAC is administered by a national executive board comprised of elected officers; this board appoints directors of LNESC, SER, and the LULAC Foundation and oversees their operation. National officers are elected each year at an assembly composed of the national executive board, district directors, and delegates from the local councils. LULAC also holds annual conventions on the district and state levels. The basic organizational unit is the council, which is chartered by the national executive board.
