1. Royal cedula, March 19, 1743, maintaining that all curacies in the Indies are under the patronage of the crown. 12 p.; 2. Depositions about the loss of the Spanish revenue cutter, San Francisco Javier, to three Dutch schooners off the coast of Venezuela, and the apparent desertion of its sister-ship, San Ignacio de Loyola. Witnesses were examined by Máximo Esteban du Bouchet and Magistrate Francisco González de Estrada. The file includes correspondence of Du Bouchet's superiors, Francisco de Garganta. Luis de Unzaga y Amézaga was the first Spanish Louisiana governor (1769 - 1777). Born in Malaga, Spain, he joined the military early in his life, taking part in the military operations of Charles of Naples against Austria. In 1769 he was appointed governor of Louisiana to succeed Alexander O'Reilly, who had incurred the disfavor of creoles and was removed by home government.
