Two and a half document boxes of correspondence, photocopied manuscripts, and clippings comprise the John Howard Griffin Collection. Containing mainly correspondence, the collection reveals Griffin's interest in religious, social, and literary issues. Two photocopied drafts of Black Like Me are present, as well as one photocopied typescript of an article by Griffin. Also present are letters from Griffin, and incoming correspondence from Berenice Abbott, Anne Jackson Fremantle, Maxwell Geismar, Jonathan Kozol, Arthur Lourie, Jacques Maritain, Francis Poulenc, Pierre Reverdy, Decherd Turner, and Gerald Vann. The papers also contain correspondence about the publication of The John Howard Griffin Reader.
