Macon abstracts a letter sent by him to Judge Henry St. George Tucker since he assumes that Tucker never received it and Macon wants Leigh to pass on the information to Tucker's family and friends. The letter notes the return of two horses as unsuitable and the acceptance of a third horse sent to him by the late John Randolph. Macon writes that Randolph "was probably the last of the very extraordinary great men which the age produced."

William Leigh, brother of Benjamin Watkins Leigh, was the judge of the circuit court in Halifax County, Virginia. He was an intimate friend of John Randolph of Roanoke and co-executor of his estate.
