Papers, 1818-1864.

The papers provide a fragmentary record of McCall's rise through the ranks from 2nd Lieutenant to Brigadier General of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps (a.k.a McCall's Division) in the Civil War. Most of the correspondence is routine; but there are some references to McCall's service in the Seminole War, 1835-1842, and Mexican War. The Civil War correspondence largely consists of letters pertaining to rumors of McCall's removal from command. There are also descriptions of the battles at New Market Crossroad, June 1862, and Drainsville. December 1861. Major correspondents include General Edmund P. Gaines and Governor Andrew Gregg Curtin of Pennsylvania.
