George Archibal McCall, American career soldier, veteran of the Black Hawk, the Second Seminole, Mexican, and the Civil Wars. Son of a Philadelphia merchant, George A. McCall graduated from West Point in 1822. In 1831-1836, he served as aide-de-camp to Edmund Pendleton Gaines. He took part in the Black Hawk War (1832), 2nd Seminole War (1835-1842), and Mexican Wars. In 1850, he was appointed the Inspector General, which post he resigned in in 1853, to settle in Chester Co., Pa. In 1861-1863, he commanded a brigade of U.S. Volunteers, and in 1862 was a Democratic candidate Congress.
