Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) served as General of the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War and was president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia from 1865 to 1870. Henry Fanthorp built the Fanthorp Inn in 1834 near the intersection of stage roads from Houston to Springfield and Nacogdoches to San Felipe de Austin in what is now Anderson in Grimes County, Texas.
