Hiram B. Yeager Papers 1846-1888

A resident of Pennsylvania, Hiram B. Yeager enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1846. Serving in the Mexican War (1846-1848), Yeager received an appointment as an officer in the Third Regiment of Dragoons in 1848. He served in militia companies in Pennsylvania after the war and with the 20th, 68th, and 99th Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War (1861-1865). Hiram B. Yeager was born in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, around 1818. Previously working as a hatter, Yeager enlisted in the army at the onset of the Mexican War, joining Company A of the Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia on 1846 August 2.
