Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969) was leader of the Allied forces in Europe in World War II, commander of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and the thirty-fourth president of the United States, from January 20, 1953, to January 20, 1961. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas, the third son of David Jacob Eisenhower, a railroad worker, and Ida Elizabeth Stover. Robert Edward Hampton was born on September 21, 1922 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force, European Theater of Operations, 1942 to 1945, and received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1949.
