William English Mickle, Confederate soldier, teacher, businessman, and leader in Confederate veterans' affairs, was born 31 October 1846, and died 18 February 1920.

He served with Company A, 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, and received a medical discharge at Petersburg, Virginia, in February 1865. Later a teacher and businessman, Mickle was also adjutant general in the United Confederate Veterans. His son, William E. Mickle, Jr., was in the army in Alabama at the time of the Spanish-American War.
