Evans, Clement A. (Clement Anselm), 1833-1911
Variant namesClement A. Evans (1833-1911) was a native of Stewart County, Georgia, and, before the Civil War, judge of that county's court and a Georgia state senator. During the war he served with the Army of Northern Virginia as brigadier general and, in November 1864, as division commander and acting major general in John B. Gordon's Corps. After the war he became a Methodist minister, retiring in 1892. He served on the state board of prison commissioners, and wrote diligently about the war.
Charles Edgeworth Jones was a Civil War historian.
