Howard E. Coffin was among the early experimenters who worked on steam, electric, and gasoline automobiles. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he went to work for the Olds Motor Works in 1902 and in 1905 became chief engineer. In 1910, he resigned to become part of the group that formed the Hudson Motor Car Co.
