Thomas Mann Randolph (1768-1828) was a Virginia planter, legislator (U.S. Congress 1803-07), governor (1819-22), and son-in-law of Thomas Jefferson. See also the Dictionary of American Biography 15:370-71.

Francis Walker Gilmer (1790-1826) was a lawyer, author, and educational diplomatist. See Dictionary of American Biography 7:306.

Mary House Gilmer (1785-1854) married Peachy R. Gilmer in 1803. See J.G. Speed, The Gilmers in America (NY 1897).

John Gilmer (1782-1834), a physician, married Dabney Minor's daughter Sarah (d. 1864) in 1808. They lived at Edgemont, Albermarle County, Va.

Mary Randolph (Mrs. David Meade) Randolph (1762-1828) was the sister of Thomas Mann Randolph (1768-1828). She conducted a fashionable boardinghouse in Richmond, Va. Prompted by this experience, she wrote a cookbook in 1824. See Notable American Women, 1607-1950 (Cambridge, 1971), III:117-18.
