Chauvenet was active in many businesses and organizations in Santa Fe, New Mexico, including the Avery-Bowman real estate company, the Red Cross, and the New Mexico Heart Association. She also wrote several articles about Santa Fe and its people, as well as a biography of Edgar Hewett, who founded the Museum of New Mexico and the School of American Research in Santa Fe.

Beatrice Chauvenet, writer and community leader, was born July 22, 1902 in Iola, Kansas. She received an M.A. from the University of Michigan and moved to New Mexico in 1927. A long-time resident of Santa Fe, she was involved in several civic organizations. Her interest in historic preservation is reflected in her service on the Old Santa Fe Association, the Santa Fe Historical Society, the Santa Fe Planning Commission, and the Urban Renewal Commission.

Chauvenet's publications include Hewett and Friends: A Biography of Santa Fe's Vibrant Era (Santa Fe: Museum of New Mexico Press, 1983) and John Gaw Meem: Pioneer in Historic Preservation (Santa Fe: Museum of New Mexico Press, 1985).
