Community activist, Tucson, Ariz.; active in Una Noche Plateada, Mexican American Unity Council, LULAC, and the League of Mexican-American Women. Also involved in historic preservation including efforts to preserve La Plaza de Mesilla, the Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House, El Tiradito, La Casa de Cordova, and other landmarks. In 1988, Alva headed the legalization/amnesty office of the Diocese of Tucson which coordinated efforts to get illegal immigrants to register for citizenship during the amnesty period.
