Women's historian and author, Flexner (Swarthmore College, A.B., 1930) was the author of American Playwrights, 1918-1938 (1938, 1966), Century of Struggle (1959, 1975), and Mary Wollstonecraft: a Biography (1972). She served as consultant to Notable American Women, 1607-1950 (1971) for which she wrote a dozen biographies.
