Ford Motor Company. Lincoln-Mercury Division

Hide Profile

In 1922 Henry and Edsel Ford purchased Lincoln Motor Company from Henry M. Leland. In 1938, Ford Motor Company introduced the Mercury automobile. The Lincoln-Mercury Division was formed in October 1945 as part of Henry Ford II's restructuring of Ford Motor Company. The division was responsible for the sale and distribution of Lincoln and Mercury automobiles. The Lincoln-Mercury Division was briefly divided into two divisions, Lincoln Division and Mercury Division, from April 15, 1955 until August 31, 1957. The divisions merged to form Lincoln-Mercury Division again, which lasted from September to December, 1957. In January 1958, Lincoln-Mercury Division and Edsel Division merged to form the M-E-L Division. After production of the Edsel automobile ceased in November of 1959, the M-E-L Division was disbanded and the Lincoln-Mercury Division formed again.
