Henry Peterson was born and lived most of his life in Philadelphia. He wrote for the Saturday gazette, then in 1848, with partner Edmund Deacon, became publisher and editor of The Saturday evening post. He wrote novels, poems, and plays, but was chiefly an important figure in the magazine world.

Henry Peterson was born in Philadelphia in 1818. As a young man he went into business with Edmund Deacon; the two published the Saturday Evening Post for many years. In addition to serving as editor of the Post, Peterson wrote and published many works, including drama and poetry.
