Monsen, R. Joseph
Variant namesR. Joseph Monsen was born Payson, Utah, in 1931. He earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Utah in 1953, a master of arts degree from Stanford University in 1954, and a Ph. D. from the University of California in 1960. In 1963 Monsen became an associate professor in the Department of Business, Government, and Society at the University of Washington, serving as acting chairman of the department from 1965 to 1968 and chairman from 1973-1981. From 1985 until his retirement from the University of Washington, he was professor of management and organization. Monsen⁰́₉s research interests were varied and he published many books and articles in such fields of study as capitalist, socialist, and communist economic systems; international business; and the management and control of nationalized companies. R. Joseph Monsen and his wife, Elaine, were also collectors of ceramics and photography.
