The Women and Work Program was a unit of the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations (ILIR) jointly administered by Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. In the period of 1978-1979, the Women and Work Program administered an oral history project whose aim was to document the activities of women involved in the trade unionism movement from 1900 to 1970. The title of the oral history project was "The Twentieth Century Trade Union Woman: Vehicle for Social Change." In 1996, Brigid O'Farrell, one of the project's interviewers, and Joyce L. Kornbluh of ILIR published a book Rocking the Boat; Union Women's Voices, 1915-1975 based upon the interviews.
