Biographical Note

Anne Loftis was born in New York City in 1922 to Mary R. Nevins and the late historian Allan Nevins. She graduated from Smith College in 1944, then worked as a journalist and free-lance writer. She is the author (or co-author) of three books published by Macmillan:

The Great Betrayal: The Evacuation of Japanese-Americans During World War II, written with Audrie Girdner. 1969.

California, Where the Twain Did Meet. 1973.

A Long Time Coming: The Struggle to Unionize America's Farm Workers, written with Dick Meister. 1977.

She is also the author of numerous articles on ethnic groups and farm labor organizing. She is married to John Loftis, emeritus member of the Stanford English Department.
