King, Philip Parker, 1793-1856
Variant namesLieut. Phillip Parker King undertook a number of hydrographic surveying and charting voyages around Australia between 1817 and 1822 in H.M. Cutter Mermaid and H.M. Brig Bathurst. He returned from England and settled in New South Wales in 1832.

Phillip Parker King, the son of Governor Phillip Gidley King was born on Norfolk Island. He later settled in N.S.W. Robert Fitzroy commanded the subsequent expedition in the "Beagle" (of which Charles Darwin was the scientist) and later became Governor of New Zealand. He committed suicide in 1865.

Son of Philip Gidley King. He was a naval officer, hydrographer and manager of the Australian Agricultural Company. Between 1826 and 1830 he commanded HMS Adventure and HMS Beagle to chart the coasts of Peru, Chile and Patagonia. See ADB, vol. 2 (p. 61-64).
