Philip Gidley King was in command of the settlement of Norfolk Island (1788-96) and succeeded John Hunter as Governor of New Wales in 1800. Phillip Parker King was responsible for the surveys of the north and west coasts of Australia in 1818-22. Captain Philip Gidley King was the son of P.P. King.
